New Year's Marathon Ålesund takes advantage of the mild and snow-poor winter climate of Western Norway to offer an event for eager runners during the holiday season. In 2025, the race will take place on Sunday, December 28, and it is typically the last marathon event of the year in Norway. The race starts at Moa in Spjelkavik, and the course follows Gamle Brusdalsvei, where marathon runners must complete two laps, while half marathon runners take one.

Highlights

  • The course goes "straight ahead" into Brusdalen for 10.5 km, then you turn around and run back to the start.
  • There is "always" a headwind on the return leg, which adds an extra physical and mental challenge.
  • The New Year's Marathon is a great opportunity for interval training, with 10.5 km x 4 without breaks in between.
